Works Off Paper Residency

(Currently on hiatus)

Upper Market Gallery runs a studio residency for artists & creatives based in the Bay Area, where studio rent is often prohibitively expensive. Each resident is given a single-occupancy studio space in North Beach for roughly 3 months. We focus on low-footprint artists in a wide range of media, and partner with them to produce something new: a print, a work on paper, textiles, a painting, installation, or performance.

We provide a physical space in which to produce, but hope also to allow for set-aside time & mindset to do something they’ve always wanted to do.

The residency provides an end-goal: a space to show new work, a platform for sharing it, and a new audience.

In addition to showing new work in partnership retail spaces or our gallery space in the Castro, our partnership with What Editions offers an opportunity to make limited edition prints for artists who typically make only unique works.
